CILIP 125: The next generation of leaders

Seventeen of the CILIP 125 List of the next generation of leaders are Information School alumni or students.

CILIP members and colleagues were asked to nominate individuals within the profession to “recognise and honour a new generation of librarians, information and knowledge management professionals who drive positive change, make a difference and have an impact across all sectors.”

CILIP Honorary Fellow Sheila Webber, leader of the iSchool's Library and Information Services Management programmes: "It's fantastic to see so many of our former students on this list of passionate and talented individuals. It's also great to have two of our current students already recognised for their drive and contribution!"

Arved Werner Kirschbaum said:"I felt incredibly honoured and also very happy to be named as one of the CILIP 125, because it felt like a confirmation of the path I have chosen for myself: to become a librarian and devote my life to making a positive difference to people's lives every day. I know that I am only on this list because of all the opportunities both CILIP, my workplace, the Sheffield Information School, and the many wonderful people I have been fortunate to meet in this industry have offered me and which I have always gladly taken up. I hope that in 25 years, I will be in a position to offer these same opportunities to the generation after mine."

The list was announced at the CILIP Conference in July.

Tools for Life: Data Sharing and Public Health

 Data is the lifeblood of our digital society, but how our personal information is stored and shared is an understandably contentious issue. ‘ Tools for Life: Data Sharing and Public Health ’, a 20-month public engagement project which concluded in March 2021 and was headed by Information School Lecturer Dr Jonathan Foster, looked into the issues surrounding this idea in the context of patient data, with consideration of this issue being particularly important against the backdrop of the current NHS opt-out system for consent. Dr Jonathan Foster Alongside Dr Foster, the project involved fellow Information School Lecturer and expert in Health Informatics Dr Laura Sbaffi, and Professor Suzanne Mason, a clinician academic and Professor of Emergency Medicine based at the University’s School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR).
