Why I chose to study a Professional Enhancement course

Our Postgraduate courses in Information Management, Information Systems and Librarianship are available as 'Professional Enhancement' courses alongside their 'standard' routes. Our student ambassador Anirban shared his thoughts on studying one of these courses and why it might be right for you. I am pursuing an MSc in Information Systems Professional Enhancement at the Information School. Professional Enhancement is a separate programme designed for candidates with two or more years of relevant experience who want to pursue a higher degree to gain knowledge and learn new skills. Before coming to Sheffield, I worked for 3.5 years as a Java developer at Infosys and Capgemini in India. I wanted to pursue a Masters degree in a course that is a good blend of technical and non-technical modules which would enhance my existing skills. Dr Caitlin Bentley , Lecturer in AI-enabled Information Systems, features on the Womanthology website this month.  Caitlin joined the Information School in 2020, as a lecturer in AI-enabled information systems. Prior to that, Caitlin worked at the 3A Institute, Australian National University, where she contributed to the development of a branch of engineering to manage artificial intelligence at scale and make a positive impact. Caitlin previously worked within the area of information and communications technologies for development. Blog: My Year as an Information Systems Student Ying Ji Ying Ji at the BBC I am an MSc Information System student this academic year, and also a Student Ambassador for the Information School. The year of living and studying in the iSchool has given me a very deep and beautiful memory. The Information School provides a variety of courses for student learning. In the two semesters, I have learned the knowledge related to information system modelling, planning and organization management, taken programming (JAVA), database design and business intelligence as my optional modules. In addition, I learned about the legal and ethical issues of computing and information systems in society, which expanded my background knowledge.  At University, we have lots of different learning methods such as lectures, seminars, lab classes and group meetings. ISHIMR Conference 2020

The 18th International Symposium for Health Information Management Research (ISHIMR) is being held this year in Kalmar at Linnaeus University. Scientists from all over the world gather to discuss e-health. The overall conference theme for ISHIMR 2020 is "Using digital information for better patient health, care and well-being". The deadline for the submission of poster and paper abstracts has now passed but you can register to attend by clicking here . The deadline for registration is 31st August. The conference is free to attend. We welcome submissions relating to research and development on the conference theme in its broadest sense. Joint PhD presentation between Sheffield and Makerere, Uganda, delivered by Liliana Sepulveda Garcia

Last week saw the first presentation in a series of joint talks between the Information School's Health Informatics and Information Systems Research Groups in Sheffield. and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.The talks aim to promote research collaboration and knowledge sharing. Dr Laura Sbaffi and Dr Efpraxia Zamani are organising this series and chairing the Sheffield presentations, and Prof Josephine Nabukenya will be chairing the presentations from Makerere. In this first session, PhD student Liliana Sepulveda offered the audience a great overview of her PhD research on "An experiential study of the human-technology relationship between informal caregivers of people with dementia and assistive technologies". There will be similar virtual meetings every month and the next schedule one is for Tuesday 11th June, when a PhD student from Makerere will be presenting their work. PhD alumni Nipon Parinyavuttichai recognised by ThaiHealth

Dr. Nipon Parinyavuttichai, who graduated with a PhD from the Information School in 2011, recently earned a certificated of recognition from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) for his continuing support for social improvement in Thailand. ThaiHealth is a state agency with the mission to inspire, motivate, coordinate, and empower individuals and organizations in all sectors for the enhancement of health promotion, working towards a healthy society and environment. Dr. Parinyavuttichai‘s latest contribution involves the initiation of a volunteer engagement program from various professional fields to help the Cha-choeng-sao municipality create a 10-year strategic plan to provide older people with better provision in various ares such as healthcare services, education, information technology, architecture and social welfare.
