Final call: Postgraduate Advantage Scheme

Interested in a flexible work placement during term time or vacation period?  Bursaries of £1000 available!  The Postgraduate Advantage  Scheme is still accepting applications and  w e would particularly like to see more applications from Information School students.  Successful applicants will receive a bursary from the University to undertake an internship of 100 hours, which  can take place at any time before the end of July 2016. You can fit the hours around your studies.  To take part in the scheme, you first need to find an internship. You can either source and secure your own in an area that interests you (help on the PAS website is given), or apply for one which we have already found via myVacancies.  Roles which are still available include: Data Scientist (particularly keen to attract students from the Information School) Marketing Intern Project Coordinator Conversions Analyst Or...

Sheffield Postgraduate Scholarships Launched to Fund Talented Students

100 scholarships worth £10,000 are available for students starting a taught postgraduate course this year. The scholarships are for students who meet at least one of a selection of widening participation criteria (targeting groups under-represented at taught postgraduate level) and/or students who achieve a first in their undergraduate degree.     Further information about the scholarships, including eligibility information and an outline of the application/selection process, can be found here . The deadline for applications is the 22 May 2016.

Congratulations to our Graduates and Prize Winners

We would like to offer our warmest congratulations to our latest cohort of postgraduate students on their recent graduation.   On 15 January 2016 the School held a reception before the ceremony, where our P rize W inners were honoured for their outstanding achievements.    The West Riding Country Library/Annenberg Prize is given for outstanding performance in the field of public librarianship and was awarded to Anya Badock, MA Librarianship. Interested in undertaking an internship? We have bursaries that could support you to do just that.

The Postgraduate Advantage  scheme provides internship bursaries for taught postgraduate students in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The internships can fit around your studies and support will be provided to you through the scheme. Successful applicants will receive a £1000 bursary from the University to undertake a 100 hour internship through this scheme. Graduate Laura Williams wins SLA Award

Laura Williams, graduate of our MA Librarianship programme, has won the SLA Europe Early Career Conference Awards 2013 .  Laura, along with three other winners, will attend the SLA Conference & INFO-EXPO in San Diego in June. Laura is currently working in the media library at ITV as a Media Logistics Co-ordinator responsible for delivering programme content on tape across the organisation for broadcast.

Jonathan Foster visiting India

Jonathan Foster is currently in India from the 10-16th March, visiting universities and educational agencies to raise awareness of PGT courses; and to talk with students who are looking to apply to our PGT courses here at Sheffield. The whistlestop tour is taking in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai; and it's proving to be a diverse, ordered, sometimes bamboozling place!

Almost 250 postgraduates successfully graduated from the School's single- and dual-honours degree programmes, and now go on to join the thousands of Information School alumni working throughout industry, government, education and other organisations across the world. PhD student Angharad Roberts speaks at Charleston Conference

Third year PhD student Angharad Roberts recently gave a presentation about her research at the 32nd Charleston Conference on Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. The conference ran from 7-10 November and Angharad gave her presentation, 'Exploring Concepts of "Collection" in the Digital World' , on Saturday 10 November.

Librarianship graduate Anneli Sarkanen wins SLA Europe Award

Anneli Sarkanen, who graduated from the School's MA Librarianship programme in 2005, is the winner of the 2012 Special Libraries Association Europe/LMD Conference Award . The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the information profession amongst those living and working in Europe.  Anneli works as Information Officer at Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP, and  is an active member of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL), and currently serves as Vice-Chair of their PR & Promotions Committee. Anneli was recommended for the award by a former colleague, who described her as  ‘an excellent ambassador for the information profession in London and the UK’.

iSchool student Ruth Jenkins wins SLA Award

Congratulations to Ruth Jenkins, student on our MA Librarianship degree, who has been announced as one of the five winners of the SLA Europe Early Career Conference Award (ECCA) 2012 . Ruth is studying with us following a graduate traineeship at the Bodleian Social Science Library at the University of Oxford. Ruth has also worked as a library assistant in a public library and Devon School Library Service. Ruth is co-sponsored by the Business and Finance Division.
