The Information School at the University of Sheffield, ranked number one in the world for library and information management in the QS World University Rankings 2021, is advertising for up to two funded PhD Scholarships to start in the 2021/22 Academic Year.

The successful applicant(s) will be expected to provide up to 180 hours of teaching support per academic year. Payment for teaching support will be made in addition to bursary and fees, at the rate set by the Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) scheme.

2. Applications should include: a CV detailing their academic record (max. 2 pages); a supporting statement (max. 2 pages); a research proposal (guidance can be found at https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/is/study/phd/research-proposal); academic transcripts; and two references.
Your supporting statement should include the following information:
- Your project title and aim;
- Your motivation for undertaking the research at PhD level;
- The key areas of our teaching that you would feel confident to support through leading seminars, assisting in practical labs, and marking. Successful applicants should be able to teach in some of the subjects covered in the MSc. Eligibility:
Applicants are expected to hold a strong Master's Degree (or be working towards Master's degree at the time of application), with an overall grade of at least 65% from a UK institution (or equivalent from an overseas university), with a minimum of 65% in a research project/dissertation.
English Language Requirements:
A degree from a University classed as 'majority English speaking' by UK Visas and Immigration. If this is dated more than five years prior to your proposed start date, we may require an up-to-date qualification.

An appropriate English language qualification, obtained in the last two years, that meets our minimum entry requirements:

Selection process:
The selection process will be based on academic qualifications, teaching ability, references, quality of the research proposal, and will be assessed through the application and an interview.
Funding:
The successful applicant will receive an annual maintenance stipend at the standard UK Research Council rate (£15,609 per year for 2021/2). The funding will only cover the cost of Home tuition fees and any successful international applicants would need to pay the difference between the home fee and the international fee.
