This week saw a poster session for the Faculty of Social Sciences BA Digital Media and Society students, a cross-department programme to which the Information School contributes two core modules. The posters are the result of a 2 week 'group challenge' in which students had to develop a proposal for a digital media campaign aimed at raising awareness about how personal data are gathered from online sources to be analysed and used by different people for different purposes. Well done to all the students involved, and particularly the winners of the Best Poster award, seen below! Pam McKinney, Coordinator of the School's undergraduate Business Intelligence module, has secured arrangements with four local businesses to bring real-life issues to the lecture room for students to address. The Undergraduates will work in small groups to investigate the issues, and then present solutions which the businesses can put into practice. This year's partners are: Regather Airy Fairy Emmaus Aspire  As in previous years, these links have been forged in collaboration with the experts at University of Sheffield Enterprise .

Dr Alex Peng Information School Lecturer Dr Alex Peng has won the University's  SURE 2012 Academic Supervisor of the Year . He received his award at this year's SURE Showcase yesterday. Alex's student Marcus Walton was also one of only three students nominated for the SURE 2012 Student Researcher of the Year.

According to the Independent newspaper, it's because "this is not a degree for the old fashioned but for future managers. A new dawn of librarian has arrived...are you in? ... These days the degree is really broad and is a cross between computer science and management." The Independent A-Z of Degrees August 2009 As you will see, their objective overview of Library and IM degrees around the country places the University of Sheffield firmly at the front.
